Zambrero’s 1st Grade Wrap Up - Round 4

With Western Suburbs withdrawing from the competition, the Brothers and Western Suburbs game was unable to take place which gave Brothers a week off along with North Ward who had a bye. At Mike Carney Toyota Park, Ross River went up against a favoured Teachers West, and later in the afternoon, Charters Towers were faced off against Burdekin in a classic country clash.

Zambrero’s 1st Grade Wrap Up - Round 3

With cyclone Debbie on her way, Saturday was always going to be a humid day and that it was. After a narrow win last week, Burdekin got the weekend off with a bye. At Mike Carney Toyota Park, a thrilling double header took place. First up it was North Ward taking on Brothers, followed by a nail biter between Western Suburbs and Ross River. Meanwhile, down the road at Warrina Park, Charters Towers had the road trip to take on a confident Teachers West.


With Round 3 of the Zambreros 1st Grade competition kicking off tomorrow selections are heating up for the Castrol Senior Brolgas Squads. With the Mens Brolgas defending Champions in the North Qld region for the past three seasons they are on the hunt for a fourth title in the TDRU's 50th year. A big crowd is expected for the tournament which coincides with the TDRUs 50th Anniversary Celebrations. Men's Coach Fran Lando who has taken over from predecessor Trent Johnston will have four weeks of preparation in the lead up the Carnival. Pita Thompson will head up the Under 19 Coaching team and Campbell Yates the Brolgas Womens. 

Zambrero’s 1st Grade Wrap Up - Round 2

With the cobwebs out of the system from the opening week, round 2 of the Zambrero’s 1st Grade Competition proved to be more promising with closer score lines and more competitive games. North Ward hit the road west this week to take on Charters Towers in front of a big local crowd in their return to the top competition. Meanwhile down south the Burdekin hosted Ross River in a tight encounter. Whilst at Mike Carney Toyota Park long time rivals Teachers West and Brothers squared off in front of a spectacular crowd for the match of the round.
