 Townsville Players selected in Qld Country Heelers 


The Queensland Country Heelers senior and U19s squads for 2018 have been named, following the culmination of the Queensland Country Championships in Townsville over the weekend. The Townsville and District Rugby Union congratulate all the TDRU players who were selected to play in the following games. Townsville selected players list below.

Queensland Country Heelers 2018 senior fixtures:

Monday 25th June -  Open Heelers play Ellesmere at Dunsandel Rugby Football Club Christchurch, Kick off 7:00pm (NZ time).

Wednesday 27th June – Heelers play North Canterbury at Hagley Oval Mandeville Christchurch, kick off 3:30pm (NZ time).

Saturday 30th June – Heelers play NSW Country at Riddles Oval Goondiwindi, Kick off 3:30pm.

Queensland Country Heelers Colts 2018 fixtures:

Thursday 28th June – Queensland Country U19s play University of Queensland at St.Lucia, kick-off is 6:30pm.

Saturday 30th June – Queensland Country U19s play NSW Country U19s at Riddles Oval, kick off is at 2:15pm.

Primary Schools Gala Day Rugby Kicking Off!

Prior to the Big Boys taking the field for the Country Championships this weekend some Grassroots Primary School Rugby will be taking centre stage at Mike Carney Toyota Park on Friday. The Annual Primary Schools Rugby Gala Day (Formerly Development Cup) will feature schools from across Townsville with 16 teams participating in the Senior and Junior Divisions. Primary Schools Rugby spokesperson Scott O'Neill said the event is the hallmark tournament for Primary School Rugby in North Queensland. "This event has been run now for nearly a decde with many of our players from our first few years of the tournament now participating in the country champs for North Qld this weekend, so it really is great that another 200 local Primary School students get to participate on a great weekend for local Rugby". Congrad Gargett Weekly Wrap

Buckle yourselves in and get ready for a trip around the grounds in another captivating round of the Conrad Gargett 1st Grade competition!! This week’s action saw a showdown between University and Charters Towers Bulls, as well as Brothers clashing with North Ward Old Boys, and finally Teachers West taking on a Burdekin team fresh from a bye.

Teenage Girls Club Rugby Competition Kicks Off

The Boys, Men and Women have been having thier fun since March in the TDRU Competition but its time for them to step aside! This weekend sees the first round of the Inaugural TDRU - Teenage Girls Club Rugby competition. With 11 brand new teams taking part across the 2 Divisions (Under 16s & Under 18s) the interest from players has been expolding! 5 clubs are participating in the newly formed competition including a team from Hughenden 400km south west of Townsville. With many of the girls involved in previous years Townsville Teenage 7s and Teenage Girls Come & Try competitions contributing to the growth its time now for the real deal. The teams will compete in a 10-a-side round robin competition over an 11 week period with finals in September alongside the other grades. Games will be played at grounds throughout Townsville, Charters Towers and the Burdekin and are expected to draw big crowds. Over the course of the season it is expected numbers of Girls playing the game will be well in excess of 100 with possible representative honours in a Townsville Brolgas Girls 7s team up for grabs to travel to the State Titles in Brisbane in October.

This week’s action saw a showdown between Brothers and the mighty Charters Towers Bulls, as well as defending premiers Teachers clashing with potential premiers North Ward Old Boys, and finally University taking on Ross River at home.
