Senior Brolgas Squad named for Anzac Day and North Queensland Championships

The 2016 Senior Brolgas Mens squad to compete in the Annual Anzac Day game against the 3rd Brigade and the North Queensland Championships has been named. The team features many returning faces from last years Championship team as well as a host of new faces, with a few players moving up the ranks from the Queensland Country Under 20's team. The Brolgas will go into training next week as they prepare for the Representative season, which will see them play against the Army on ANZAC Day before travelling up to Cairns to play against Mackay, Mt Isa and Cairns. The Women's team, set to be named later on in the week will follow the same path as the men, playing in the ANZAC Day clash before competing in the NQ Championships for the first time. 2016 Dudley Jones Cup Week 2

Week 2 of the Townsville A Grade competition kicked off last weekend with some exciting match ups and results to boot. Ross River faced off against Burdekin on Friday Night down at Casalegno field, while North Ward Old Boys took on Brothers at Mike Carney Toyota Park in the first game of the afternoon on Saturday, with Western Suburbs and Teachers West following after.

2016 Dudley Jones Cup Week 1

The first round of Senior games kicked off last weekend and with that, the 2016 Dudley Jones Cup A Grade Competition began. With all teams putting in the hard yards over the pre-season, including a few warm up games they were all raring to go and get a positive start to the season. Teachers West faced off in a Grand Final rematch against Brothers in the first game of the day at Mike Carney Toyota Park while Burdekin made the trip up to play North Ward Old Boys in the second game. Ross River Redskins played host to Western Suburbs in the other game of the day.

Former President of the TDRU Bill Rolfe has sadly passed away.

A keen and involved member of the local rugby community, he coached touring Brolgas teams as well as being President of the TDRU in 1979. A Veteran of the Vietnam way, he continued to stay involved in both the rugby and military set up, even becoming appointed as an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day honours list for services to Veterans. His presence will be sorely missed.

Happy International Women's Day!

Here is a flashback to the teams that competed in the revitalised Ladies competition back in 2013. Back then the competition comprised of three teams battling it out over a 12 week block. Three years on and with the addition of Western Suburbs, Ross River Redskins and Brothers this season has 6 teams competing in the full TDRU competition. The quality of the Ladies competition continues to improve with players from Townsville now regularly selected in representative teams. We would also like to have a special mention to all the Sisters, Wives, Girlfriends and Mothers who help us off the field to make sure we can get back on it.
