Match 4- Townsville Brolgas 33 def Sano Nihon High School 28

The Brolgas had the lions share of the footy in the early stages of the game but showed signs of rust making mistakes early giving up possession. Pressure on the Brolgas scrum in the midfield saw the locals playing tight before spreading it wide into space and the winger looking a sure thing to score in the corner, if it wasn’t for fullback Declan Maguire (Brothers) who bundled him over the sideline ball and all.

Brolgas 50 def Rikkyo Niiza High School 12

Early mistakes put the Brolgas under pressure again as the team proved not the best at starting matches against the helter skelter of the Japanese. Despite this however they quickly turned pressure on them into points as a breakdown turnover went wide to back rower Jimmi Thompson (Teachers West) who offloaded to lock Zac Speet (Teachers West) to pin the ears back and score in the corner from 30m out. Thompson then converted for the Townsville team to lead 7-0.

The Brolgas again adjusted well to the pace of the game early taking it to the team from Kiryu. With many other schools at the Panasonic Wild Knights home watching on the boys were keen to show their wares against the local side in Ota, Gunma today.

Match 2: Townsville Brolgas 66 def Tokai University Kofu 12

After their slow start in game one the Brolgas were looking to make amends for their second hitout against Tokai University Kofu in the Yamanashi Prefecture. Perhaps the lads were inspired by the stunning vista of the field with Mt Fujii in the background.

Match 1 vs Senshu Matsudo High School.

Game one kicked off in typical Japanese fashion with the opposition playing at breakneck speed and the Brolgas weathering the storm but conceding points thanks to some great tight forward play on the Brolgas line.
