Zambreros 1st Grade Wrap Up - Round 20

Round 20 0f 1st grade competition saw Brothers up against Ross River at Ignatius park and North Ward old boys against Burdekin, with both Teachers West and Charters Towers having a bye.

Brothers put on an impressive performance in front of their home crowd this week, leaving Ross River stunned and looking for answers. Brothers almost put on 87 points un-answered, with both forwards and backs combining well, the forward pack for Brothers wreaked havoc on Ross River’s defence. With Brother hooker Blair Morgan leading the charge, Brothers backline were able to exploit Ross River out wide with winger Jacob Martinez putting on a show with five tries and ten conversions. Ross River didn’t go home empty handed with Leo Pakome able to cross in the last minutes of the game. Full time score Brothers 87 def Ross River 5.

 

North Ward Old Boys 29 (S Bradley 2t, D Williams 1 t, C Kennedy 1t 3c 1p) def Burdekin 19 ( J Mayhew 1t, L Kerr 1t, R Furnell 1t, S Kennedy 2c)

A close encounter for both teams with North Ward able to secure the win. North Ward came out firing and their forward pack showed their dominance right from the beginning, with impressive defence and strong ball running. Scrumhalf Sam Bradley exploiting the Burdekin defence out wide off a set piece move with Connor Kennedy converting. The start of the 2nd half was in favour of the Burdekin with Lachlan Kerr leading the way slicing through some poor defensive efforts from North Ward. The backline of North Ward proved the hero of the night, where they were able to string together some classy moves and winger Connor Kennedy was able to finish for the Old Boys. Next week is the final round for competition points with Teachers against Northward at Warrina Park, Charters Towers have their Ladies day while battling for the John Fry Memorial Cup against brothers. Burdekin also having their Ladies day, hosting Ross River Redskins at home.
