Zambreros 1st Grade Wrap Up - Round 19

In round 19 of 1st grade competition we saw Charters Towers up against Ross River Redskins at Bindal Sports Grounds, Brothers on the road against Burdekin and Teachers West at home against North ward Old Boys.

Charters Towers 26 (A Fildes 1t, J Robins 1t, S Makie 1t, P Warria 1t, S Knuth 3c) def Ross River 22 (S Chapman 1t, B Greene 1t, L Pakome 1t, R Daniel 1t, P Vereakula 1c).

Ross River were up against a rampaging Bulls outfit at home this round, with Charters Towers taking home the win. A tight game for both teams in a contest that went right down to the last minute, the dominant forwards display in the first half led by Shaq Chapman and Bernard Greene of Ross River. Through an impressive rolling maul Leo Pakome was able to cross over. Charters Towers bounced back with their forwards displaying impressive power and dominance which led to a try by Josh Robins. Poor defence out wide in the second half by Charters towers presented a problem for the away team but they were quickly able to pull it together and showed some impressive attacking skills which led to great field position. After some poor discipline from the home side Andy Fildes went on to score.  For Charters Towers, special mentions going to Peter Utromu who was the man of the match, Full time score Charters towers 26 over Ross River Redskins 22.

 

Brothers 38 (P Boniface 1t, E Rademacher 1t, B Bulley 1t, A Pyper 1t, T Harvey 1t, J Martinez 5c 1p) def Burdekin 10 (J Blakey 1t, L Heron 1t).

Brothers were on the road this week against Burdekin, but the travel didn’t seem to bother the away team, winning in a dominant display of rugby. An impressive performance from Brothers that showed both the forwards and backs combining to stun a Burdekin outfit. A fast pace game from Brothers seemed relentless to the Burdekin defence which eventually wore thin, Billy Bulley and Ayden Pyper both impressive in the backs helping their team to a convincing victory. The forwards didn’t shy away from the contest with Emil Grant leading the charge for the forwards pack. Burdekin were still able to respond with two tries from Conor Twamley and Leonard Heron but it was too little too late for the home team, Burdekins best on the night was the half back Damon Hesp. Full time score, Brothers 38 over Burdekin 10.

 

Teachers West 48 (J Fletcher 3t, T Vinson 1t, G Morgan 1t, J Lamb 1t, N Norman 1t, K Horwood 1t, C Mason 3c, J Scattini 1c) def North Ward 0.

Teachers were at home this week against North ward, and with Finals just around the corner, it was obvious Teachers had a point to prove. A game dominated by Teachers leaving North ward completely without answers. A relentless forward pack carved the way for a classy Teachers backline where the points started to pile up, Tom Vinson showed his skill through an impressive try but the player leading the charge was the No 10, Josh Fletcher, with three tries and numerous assists he was Teachers standout, guiding the home side to a comfortable win.


Next week we see Burdekin taking on North ward Old Boys at Mike Carney Toyota park, Brothers at home against Ross River and Teachers and Charters towers having a bye.
