Under 15's Schoolboys State Championships - Results Day 2

Day 2 of the Under 15’s Schoolboys State Championships saw yet again the high standard of rugby that teams from across Queensland have to offer. The Northern boys had an awesome day on the field taking out both crucial games, which will see them through to tomorrow’s semi-final.

Game 1:

In a do or die game for the young Northern side, they faced up against the strong Capricornia team. A win here would set the Northern boys up for semi-finals footy. The boys in blue started this crucial game red hot as they raced to a 10-0 lead, both conversions slightly missing. They controlled the outset of the game, however, Capricornia scored a shock try which meant the team went into halftime 10-7. A try to Tyrese Brown in the left corner mid-way through the second half gave Northern a 15-7-point lead. Capricornia bravely fought their way back into the game but it was not enough as the Northern sides defence held true. The player of match went to Burdekin player Harold Mial for his great defence and ball running.

Game 2:

A win against Peninsula in the second game of the day for the Northern side, would seal their spot as 2nd in their pool and put them into the semi Finals. The boys had a point to prove against regional rivals Peninsula, scoring brilliant running rugby tries early in the first half. The Northern team saved their best footy for when they needed it most, capping off a strong round of pool games with a 40-7 point win. Tyrese Brown was a standout, scoring two outstanding solo tries on his way to the player of the match award.

The young side now face Met West in the Semi tomorrow at 12:30 after finishing the pool games with 2 wins, a draw and a loss. Get down to Mike Carney Toyota park to support the local regional side.
